Massey University, New Zealand, Bachelor of Design with Honours (Major Textiles)

Olivia aims to provide mountaineers with protection of extremities in case of falling through base-layer garments with built-in flexible armour. Her design provides impact protection to the wearer while also being comfortable, soft, and breathable with moisture wicking and insulating properties. She uses knitted spacer fabrics using sustainable thermoplastic filaments between the face and back, in strategic locations to absorb shocks. This material has the potential to decrease the likelihood of injury and revolutionise safety garments in the sportswear industry.
