With her innovation proposal, Holly sets out to create base- and mid-layer garments which provide recreational mountaineers thermal protection and muscle support in as few garments as possible. She achieves this using auxetic knit structures. Unlike most materials, auxetic fabrics thicken rather than compress upon stretching, thus the result of Holly’s design is a body mapped garment which provides users both compression and insulation. The design can provide minor muscle support to areas commonly under stress in recreational mountaineering activities.
